Fleece and Softshell Covers: Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is a cover a good alternative to an expensive babywearing jacket?
Absolutely! A cover is an excellent alternative to an expensive babywearing jacket. It is a universal solution—it fits every parent and grows with your child. Thanks to its adjustability, it can be shared between different caregivers (mom, dad, or grandparents), saving you the cost of buying separate outerwear for everyone.
2. How do I adjust the cover to keep my baby warm?
All our covers (both Fleece and Softshell) feature a practical hood to protect the baby’s head and special drawstrings around the edges. These allow you to perfectly adjust the fabric to your baby's size, creating a snug and warm "cocoon" that effectively protects against cold drafts.
3. What is the difference between mounting a Fleece cover and a Softshell cover?
This is a key technical difference to consider when choosing your product:
- Fleece Cover: Features a convenient strap that fastens around the parent's neck. This makes it the most universal option—you can use it with structured carriers, woven wraps, elastic wraps, and even ring slings.
- Softshell Cover: It is attached using special snaps (poppers). This system works perfectly with structured carriers, woven wraps, and elastic wraps, but it is not compatible with ring slings.
4. When should I choose a Softshell cover vs. a Fleece cover?
- Windproof Softshell Cover (snap-on) is the best choice for variable weather, rain, and strong winds. It features a membrane, making it an effective waterproof Softshell cover.
- Fleece Cover (neck-fastening) is the ideal solution for dry, chilly days. It is exceptionally soft, universal (fits ring slings too), and provides excellent thermal insulation when worn under the parent's unzipped jacket.
5. Do I need to dress my baby in thick layers under the cover?
The cover acts as an additional protective layer, and you also warm the baby with your own body heat. With a Softshell cover, lighter clothing underneath is usually enough, as the material is great at retaining heat and blocking cold gusts. Always check the back of your baby's neck to ensure they are comfortable and not overheating.
6. Does the cover also protect the baby's feet?
Yes! Thanks to the drawstrings mentioned above, you can create a deep "pocket" for the legs. This ensures full protection for the feet against the cold, regardless of whether the child is wearing shoes or just thick socks.
7. Does the cover have a pocket for the parent?
Our covers feature a practical "kangaroo" pocket on the front. It allows the parent to tuck in and warm their hands during a walk, which is invaluable on freezing days. You can also use it to conveniently hold small items like your phone or keys.
8. Cover or snowsuit – which is better for babywearing?
Wearing a baby in a thick, slippery snowsuit inside a wrap or carrier can be difficult and often prevents the correct "M-position" (the frog position). A cover allows you to dress the baby in lighter, more flexible clothing, making it easier to tighten the wrap correctly. A Softshell cover replaces the outer layer of a snowsuit, providing the baby with more freedom of movement and better thermoregulation.
